Hard Drive: WD Elements 12 gb
Router: Asus RT-AC68A with USB 3 connection
Plugged HD into router via provided USB 3 cable. Router sees HD, but I can’t see hard drive in File Explorer from computer via wireless connection.

The Asus RT-AC68U supports a Maximum of 2TB
i would assume the same goes for the older RT-AC68A
From the User Manual …
The wireless router works with most USB HDDs/Flash disks (up to 2TB size) and supports read-write access for FAT16, FAT32, EXT2, EXT3, and NTFS.
They don’t mention it, but it probably needs to be MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table … drives over 2TB (such as your 12TB Elements) will be using GPT (GUID Partition Table) because 2TB is the limit for MBR
