Hello, recently I noticed my HDD stopped connecting to my laptop. Futher tries to other pcs failed to work. Only with some applied pressure in a certain direction, was I able to get a response, the HDD would power up and the LED would light. However, it will only give me a device not recognized now. Upon further inspection, it appears that the board is cracked where the usb port is soldered to the board.I’m looking for any ideas, or possibly a replacement board, if anyone knows anything.

Hello. In this case I recommend to contact Western Digital to inquire about a replacement. That is if the drive is still under warranty. If it is not, then you will have to use the drive connecting it directly into a computer.
If your hard drive’s board incorporates an Initio INIC-1607E USB-SATA bridge IC, then your data will be hardware encrypted, even if you have not set a password. Moreover, even if you find a matching replacement board, you will still need to transfer the 8-pin serial flash memory chip at location U12 from patient to donor. This chip stores unique, drive specific “adaptive” information. Some board suppliers include a firmware transfer or ROM transfer service for US$10 - $20. Otherwise, if you are not adept at soldering, your local TV/AV repair shop should be able to do it for you.
That said, your most expedient solution would be to find someone to reattach the mico-USB connector.
