Brand new 5tb WD Elements external not working

Hey guys,

I’ve been working on this issue for almost a week now.

At first, the drive would only show up via USB 2.0. When I plugged it in to my USB 3.0 the computer wouldnt see it at all. I figured it was a driver issue, but figured I’d fix it later. I really needed to get some stuff off my other hdd to free up some space, so I transfered a little under 700mb of video files to the external drive. Once I saw how slow the transfer rate on USB 2.0 I really had to figure out the driver issue.

I finally figured out it was because I had the improper USB 3.0 drivers. It took me a few days to figure this out though. I finally found the correct drivers through the AMD CCC program.

Now I know I have the correct drivers because other USB 3.0 devices are working, but my PC will not see the drive at all. Not in device manager or disk management (in either usb 2.0 or usb3.0) I also tried the the external on two other PCs and they dont see it at all either.

I don’t have any other cables to test out if it’s a cable issue, but I had only had the drive for 3 days when it stopped working, so I have a hard time believing its a cord issue.

I’ve extensively gone through EVERY thread and post I could find on externals not showing up, and it certainly seems like mine is dead. Great, well what about the 700mb of files I just moved to it? If I have to RMA this thing what about my data?

Hello there,

From what i see i recommend contacting support for further assistance on this matter, also you can try to use the drive on a different computer to see if the same issue persists:

Please read my post again. I’ve tried on multiple pcs. I’ve tried everything recommended by your support and by the stickied post

Also I can’t create an rma, it keeps sending me in a log in loop on every browser.

can I get some support please?

I have a same problem for my My Passport Ultra. It works on via usb 2.0 but doesn’t work on usb 3.0

I tried so many other pc’s laptops and smart tvs
