Bookworld 500GB : not visible after firmware upgrade

Hi,

yesterday i upgrade firmware of 1 of my 2 BookWorld 500Gb (blue light) and since this time, it stop to work.

i firstly thought i did something wrong so today i did the same step with my 2nd BookWorld 500Gb blue light and it works.

after that i exchange both disks to check if problem was  on the disk or on the box itself…in both case, they are ok…

i mean, i place 2nd (working) disk into the 1st box and it works well.

i place back the 2nd disk into its original box and still works.

however, the 1st disk does not work at all in the 2nd box.

so it seems that the problem is with the 1st HDD…however when i check partitions of both disks they have the same structure under Windows 7 x64.

what it’s not understoodable it’s that architecture of partitions are the following:

1 partition 24 MB

1 partition 2.8 GB (yes this is incredible…while disk is only 500GB)

1 partition 102 MB

1 partition 965 MB

1 partition 461.89 GB

how is it possible ? however, the 2nd disk has the same type of partition and it works…so i guess that it is due to special system of Bookworld electronic while it’s in the box.

so how can i recovery my data on the first disk ?

thank a lot.

Alain.

I have a problem with occasional “new hardware found” & a missing drive, instead of the usual list of drives (including 0.5TB & 1TB USB external MyBooks). You might look at your Windows Configuration Manager (or whatever Win7 has). Mine each have several relatively small partitions for mysterious reasons, and the largest (<1%) is sometimes identified as a ‘safety’ or ‘backup’ partition, although it does not seem to be related to anything I have control over. I’ve given up trying to get WDAB to usefully backup a lot of critical information like email, bookmarks, installation settings, passwords, etc. in a way that is recoverable, so I just do a cascade file copy & exports. It is not much, but WD won’t give it back. Good luck Backup & Security are a perpetual chore.
