Big Error

I’m sorry if I bother you.

My niece’s Clip 2gb got big error, I can not transfer files (copy/past: “FIle could not be replaced on the device. You do not have permission to create this item.”), can’t upgrade, freeze at Turn on Screen and Turn off automaticly. It take about 15 mins to connect to pc. I tried to format it at FAT32, and I got a mess: “unable complete format”.

We hope your replies from Vietnam.

Thanks in advance

Shut the Clip off, move the power/lock switch to the lock position, and hold down the center button while connecting the Clip via USB.  Then run the Sansa Firmware Updater:

http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/156/kw/firmware/r_id/101834

If that doesn’t work, follow the later steps in this thread, especially “neutron_bob”'s posts:

http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clip&thread.id=7579

  • but at the point where he tells you to use the 1.01.29 firmware, instead use the 1.01.32 (or 2.01.32) firmware, found here:

Just a note . . . 2GB memories should be formatted as FAT. Larger capacities (4GB & up) get formatted as FAT32.

Thanks for your advices. It can be connect to my pc (after plugging in 15 mins), Updater seemed not to work, fail at last step! Sometimes, I’m upset on its structure - buil in battery - It takes much time to turn off when it is freeze.

Try MSC mode to format and update firmware.

And I believe that it’s not a good idea to format the Sansa Clip using Windows.  neutron_bob has a post about this.

That’s why I described using the hold+center button “trick” in my previous post.  It puts the Clip into MSC mode.

Yes, I tried on MSC mode but “unable complete format” again. For several times, I’m thinking about “bad flash memory” that neutron mentioned. Last month, I format C240 completely, it’s ok now. Do we have any solution to fix the memory or format by buttons on CLIP?

Please describe more about the Updater failing.  At what step does it fail ( describe the “last step” )?  How does it fail - does it display an error?

I’m not quite sure where you are in this, but can you simply:

1.  Format the Clip, from the Clip itself, under its Settings?

2.  Then, manually update to the latest firmware, by following the instructions in the Firmware Upgrade sticky thread at the top of the forum?

To PromisedPlanet:

Yup, “Last step” = Download new firmware on Updater completely, then the updating progress on Updater, but after 3%, the progress was cancled and it noticed: “Updating was fail” (I dont remember clearly).

To Miikerman:

The CLip is always freeze on “Sandisk” screen, after 15min, it’ shut down automaticly. And when I disconnect it from my pc, it freeze on Disconnect" until the Clip out of battery.

Even I try to format it by copy new firmware and past it to the memory, a message appear: “dont have permission”. Nothing transfered!

1 more thing, the connecting between The Clip and pc just begin after 15mins I plug it on, I can access 2 mode! Not allow me to transfer any file!

You may be best to contact your local SanDisk Customer Service (by phone, if possible) to see what they can do for you …

Oh,Thanks for all,guys. Please,close this threat. Thanks
