Bad Sectors - Drive?, File System? Anyway to Identify and Fix?

I’ve been dealing with WD Drives since around 1981, but still do not have an answer to: :

  1. how to determine whether I have a drive problem or a file system problem:
  2. best software to determine #1 above (Chkdsk says one thing, WD Lifeguard Tools says another)

Hope someone can provide some insight, what tools, and where to get them?

Heres a link to all the details of the last “bad sector”:chkdsk run:

Hello dw85745,

The best way to test an external WD drive is by using WD Drive utility. If there is any error in the diagnostics using WD Drive utility test then, the drive is bad and you would need to contact WD Support for warranty.

Windows Data Life guard is recommended for internal drives.
