Just bought a WD Essentials 1TB and everything was going swimmingly until I realised that I had backed up partition C instead of D.
Can I delete the backup of C and if I can how is it done??

Hi
Before deleting the backup folder make sure you will be able to backup the D: drive, after that access the drive and delete the WD Smartware.swstor folder.-

Thank you for the quick reply.
I don’t quite understand what you mean by being able to back up ‘D’ drive. I already have backed it up when I discovered my mistake. Shouldn’t I have done that??
On opening the backup drive there are no sensibly named folders only about a dozen with incredibly long letter and digit names. Help!!
I would send you a screen shot but I don’t seem to be able to persuade the tree symbol to let me!!
Bill.
Did I say D drive? I wanted to say D partition… lol sorry…
Try this go to the backup tab and under the PC picture verify if you have a drop down menu, that will allow you to change the partition from C to D.
Hi,
sorry, I think it was me who confused everyone. After I realised that I had backed up the wrong partition (C) I then went back and backed up partition D, the one where all my docs are. Now I think I have both partitions doing auto backups – I think!!
I would now like to know if this is happening and, if it is, how do I stop it and erase the unecessary partition backup.
Hello again,
I have to jump in here again as a new problem has manifested itself. The WD ikon in the task bar is flashing and saying ’ WD Drive Status - Drive discovering’ and a pop up informs me that Smartware is having a problem (no indication as to what the problem is!) and needs to shut down.
On checking ‘My Computer’ I find that the WD drive (drive L) is no longer listed. Tried a restart but still no drive showing.
Did you disconnect the drive cable and then plug into another port? You may want to safely remove and plug it back into the original port.

Yeah, SmartWare is backing up both partitions. If you don’t care about the data on the drive, you can Pause the Backup, then go into the SmartWare Utility and erase the drive. This will require you to create a new backup.
Great minds think alike! Thats exactly what I did and now alls right with the world.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
Bill

Me too.
I’m not a techie but my old Maxtor back-up had clear settings and backed up the correct “partition” without prompting.
This WD My Book Essential has almost no settings to speak of and if there’s a drop down menu under the back-up tab I sure can’t locate it.
If anyone can help, please let me know…
I’m in tech **bleep** !!!
