I was listening to music and tried to change the song and the back/home button quit working…I turned it off and back on, tried to update the firmware, and I get nothing…and the directional button on the left side isn’t working either…any help would be appreciated since I can’t return or exchange it because it was sent to me…thanks again

When you say you “tried” the update the firmware, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean the firmware update failed, or did it complete but not help the problem? Did you use the correct firmware?
