Another reason that My Passport Essentials is crap (firmware up your date)

I just tried to update the firmware. I downloaded the updater V2.003(1.0.8.0)

When I run it it tells me drive is in use, but it is not. I close all applications, retry, drive is in use!

I look in task manager, nothing odd there. This in on a fresh install of Win XP, no anti-virus

has been installed yet. I reboot, try again, still screams it is in use.

Only way I found is to eject the drive, then run updater. I claims no WD drives found.

So I plug it in, wait 5 seconds, and hit rescan before Windows “found new hardware et cetera” finishes.

Only then does it do the upgrade.

Too much frustration for one little paperweight.

Hi! Same problem here, but your solution isn’t working for me.

And from my mac i can’t use the VCD manager…

Any idea??
