Have selected to turn it off, but it always shows. Any ideas? Thanks.

Turning album art off affects the background only. During music playback, if there is available art, either as an added jpg file, or if it is embedded in the ID3 tag metadata, the art will display.
This function is borrowed from the Fuze+, with its much larger display. On the Fuze+, you can see a mosaic tile background of your individual album covers, or a simple pattern background.
