What happened? After my first backup with a new My Passport, my computer won’t connect to the internet. It’s not the modem or wireless since my iPad still works.

Verify the Ethernet cable going to the router or verify your wireless connection. There is no reason why a external drive would interfere with your internet connection.
If the issue remains try contacting WD Support.
