Accessing Data after it has been removed from it's enclosure

Hi everyone,

I was running out of power sockets at my desk so i decided to remove a 5TB and 4TB drive from their enclosures and plug them directly into the computer which i thought would have been a good idea as faster speeds.

I did little research on this thinking it would just work to find that my machine can see the drives and the partitions but i can’t access any of the data on them.

Absolutely gutted as the drives have a lot of data on and i can’t move the data to somewhere else because i don’t have another drive big enough.

Please can someone help me?

I’ve seen you can recover the data on Linux but i have never used that before so I’m going to need some explain it like i’m 5 tutorials.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Put them back inside their original enclosures then.

(i’m assuming they are WD My Books … which have hardware encryption and if removed from their original enclosures the data will still be encrypted. But, that’s just my best guess since you only told us capacity of the drives, but zero info on the drive type or even model numbers.)

Buy a power board with more sockets next time, and you wouldn’t be in this situation

(which from the sounds of it, you didn’t do any research on.)
