Had a 4TB drive for some time and just as got to used 2TB could not add more files. Gave ~2TB free space though. Had formatted as GPT so should be OK on Win 10. Decided to repartition as 2x2TB but when removing volume and reformatting now can only get 2TB. Can now not see remaining 2TB in diskpart etc. Any thoughts?
Your computer Motherboard/Firmware must support UEFI in order to boot to a hard drive larger than 2TB.
had the same problem when i got a 4TB drive to use as a boot drive … old Motherboard didn’t support UEFI (only BIOS) and would only see 2TB of the 4TB boot drive (drive was formatted GPT) … swapped out the old MoBo for a newer one with UEFI support and was able to boot to the full 4TB.
Thanks but not a boot drive is an external. Plus does support UEFI.
