3TB Mybook - Minimalist Windows 7 Installation

Greetings.  I am going to be setting up a 3TB My Book external drive.  Based on prior experience I do not want any utilities, encryption, etc. any other utilities installed. Running win7 pro 64 bit.  Don’t need a WD dashboard, etc. etc…

The instruction say to cancel the usual windows “found device” message and that WD will install the correct software.  That “found hardware” actually sounds like an older windows dialog.

The “no words” picture only setup guide shows a screen that says “weldome to the WD apps setup wizard”.

So the question is…when I plug it in, what do I need to do to just install the basic driver and no utilities.  Can I cancel out of this “WD app” stuff and just let a driver install?

Also, does WD still require their own proprietary driver to be installed to even connect/use the drive or does it now use a normal USB external drive windows driver like other drives.

Thanks,
BJB

Hello,

It’s optional to install the utilities.

Most of the times, the PC will have the drivers already installed and the drive will be just plug and play.

Greetings. As I recall from one of my prior WD drives, I got a driver install error when I connected it.  It works…but the USB mass storage drive loaded, the WD Mybook 1230 usb device loaded, but the WD SES USB Device said “no driver found”.

If I recall, unless I fix this I will get this error every time I plug in the drive.  I have attached a snip of the error.

I assume this is for some of the “extra” WD utilities which as noted I do not need.

Any suggestions to correct it or make it go away?  Last time I remember going through forums, and FAQ’s and, well it kept popping up and that drive did not like to connect reliably even though all my other drives do in that port.

Thanks for the help!

Any suggested solutions at all?

I have spent the last half hour reading web and WD posts about this.  All of the screenshots and walkthrus are for old versions of windows (looks like Xp or Vista)?.  Anyway, windows no longer pops up with that screenshot.

It appears that there is no activity on this post and the initial suggestion that windows has the drivers is not correct.  That SES driver is for features and software I do not want to use, but apparently in order to get that prompt to go away every time I plugin the dirve, I need to install the SES driver anyway…even though I do not want to use any of it’s features.

Can I possibly have this correct?  Since there seems to be little activity here I am try phone support, but was hopeful to get this simple question answered here.
Thanks,
