I was wondering if this is normal behavior for the My Book. When plugged in, it is always spinning and doesn’t go into idle. Even when not in use, I can hear the fan. The HDD is warm to the touch. I use both Windows 7 and OSX Lion and it still occurs. I also removed all the software by doing a quick format when I first got the drive.
If it is a software problem, is it possible to reinstall the software without wiping the drive?
My apologies, I forgot to put my drive model. I have the WD My Book 3TB/USB 3.0. How do I check the power settings on my computer?
I also have another question. When I have my external HDD in, is it normal for Windows 7 to boot a lot slower than usual? How can I fix that? What else is weird is that my USB 3.0 ports are not functional (no response to any USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices) if I have the HDD plugged in during boot. However, if nothing is plugged in during boot, it works perfectly.
