1TB My Passport drive reading full when it's not, IOS

Hi, I’m not super tech savvy, so hope someone might be able to help walk me through what to do about the fact that my 1TB drive appears to be storing only ~500GB but reading full and not allowing any further backup/storage. A screenshot showing the total file sizes as well as the “full” reading via Disk Utility is below.
