1T WD external unrecognized- all of a sudden stopped being seen

I am running OS X 10.12.5. all of a sudden my WD external stopped backing up. I changed USB port thinking there was a problem. still nothing. I shut down the computer and unplugged the WD. the replugged it in. Nothing. I “unmounted” it (although it was not showing up in devices in Finder and now I can’t remount it.

There is a blue light blinking very fast on the front (rather than the slow sliding when it is working). Any thoughts? Thank you.

I recommend you replace the USB cable and If possible try connecting it to another computer.

Thanks for the suggestion! I had tried changing out USB and got nothing. I had connected it to my other computer using the same cords and still nothing. But your idea pushed me to change out the power cord as well. Two new cords and VOILA! The backup is seen again! It didn’t occur to me until right now that I got “Disk not ejected correctly” message several times a day for weeks. DUH! I thought it was just that I must have bumped the wires or something! I am guessing now that it was telling me that “something” was amuck! Thanks for the push!
