system crashes using card reader in express34 slot in a 15" Macbook pro

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with an express card slot. It will kernel panic at random when I insert either of my  compact flash card readers in that slot. Apple has yet to figure it out. Any thoughts or solutions out there/
