There's ignorant, and then there's willfully ignorant. The first is simply part of life, the second is a choice.

I got a Sansa c250 2GB Refurbished and brought a 8GB Micro SD Card. The device doesn't seem to recogonize the 8GB. I tried with my mobile phone's 1GB SD card and it works fine and refreshes the devices with 1gb sd card contents. But not with the 8GB. Is that a known issue? Can c250 support a 8GB SD Card?

Was your question ever answered by anyone?
I bought the C250 New in Retail package last year 11/2007. I saved it and will be giving as a Christmas gift this year, 2008. I want to buy an SD card but do not know what version firmware (V1 or V2) it uses. I will not be opening the package as it's a gift. I want to buy the best SD card I can that will work with this unit.
If I can't find out without looking at the back of the unit, I would at least like to know if the firmware is upgradable. I know you cannot use SDHC cards with V1 firmware (at least that's what this forum says).

I have the same question......and I think you are telling us both that the c250 answer in the previous post should apply to the c240 which I also have. I did read the previous post.
Is this correct? I am ignorant if the answer to the c250 also applies to the c240. Might be obvious to you as you know more about these units but not me. I guess the worst a c240 user could do after upgrading to rockbox is that the 4 gb card would not work?

I am a bit confused....
Just got a refurbished C250, it has a V2 on the back, and yet the firmware is 01.01.05P.
I was under the impression from what I read that a V1 would have an 01 firmware, and a V2 would have an 03 firmware.
I just want to be able to use an 8gb micro SD card. If I can't, then this is a waste of money.
I guess I will just have to try and see if it works or not. I suspect not

You can't go by what it says on the back cover. Some refurbers apparently aren't conscientious about putting the correct cover on when they're finished. The firmware version is the only 100% reliable way to determine if you have a v1 or a v2.
But don't throw it out yet. If you install Rockbox you'll be able to use that 8GB card.

Thanks for the recommendation, I installed Rockbox last night and now my 8gb card is working fine.
Rockbox seems to have so many more features as well, it sounds good.
The installation was a bit of a nightmare, you have to read through so many threads to figure out EXACTLY what you have to do - or at least I did!
Had to install the V01.01.00 firmware which allowed me to go into USB mode.
Then I had to unplug the Sansa and put it into USB mode and plug it back in.
I downloaded Rockbox, unzipped the files and copied them to the Sansa, then executed them from there. The rest was easy. The install instructions were not clear about the mode settings etc.
It's nice now though, and the sync speed is pretty good - I suspect my old Kangaru MP3 player might have been USB1 since this transferred so much faster.
I appreciate the prompt response and help.
