I have tried this and it’s not working.

I think I have done all I’m supposed to do, but when I type "encode ‘imputfile(Which is really The Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy)’, it says “‘encode’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.”

Did I do something wrong?  I’m using XP, if that helps.

Updated script and instructions for drag&drop capability.

TomJensen, can you share with us why this would be faster than Video4Fuze? Both seem to use mencoder/avimux-gui.

Also, this is a bit of a non-claim: “Should run in OS X and Linux w/ dual-boot or emulation.”. Dual-boot to Windows is hardly the same as running it on Linux/OSX.

That said, nice that there is another alternative. I hope it works for the many people who are tired of SMC.

I tried again, and I just may be missing something important.

I dragged a video into encode.cmd, and then it said . . .

*****

Cannot locate convert script or AVI-MUX.  Check installation.

*****

Press any key to continue . . .

I’m a little confused about what’s going on here.  I would like to find something other than SMC, because that doesn’t always work.

Do you have AVI-MUX installed? You could search your computer for “mux” or reinstall it:  Avi-Mux

I don’t know if TomJensen’s program automatically installs that.

avi-mux crashes every time for me

Ah-ha! A solution!

You have to put in C: or else, it won’t work.  I had in E: on my computer and I copied it to C:, and it worked.

ok got it to work now.  encode.cmd has to be run in compatibility mode when using vista.

yup you’re right.  got it to work.  I didn’t read the directions.

playing the video I made on my fuze gave me a white screen.

ok I tried it with a different file and it played fine but the audio and video was way out of sync.

Updated DVD drag&drop instructions.

Known issue: Seeks will crash the Fuze at  3:20min intervals.

Thanks Tom.  I’ll give it another try.
