The root directory or “root” is the initial window you see when accessing the internal memory. In MSC mode, this is the window that opens when you click on the drive letter assigned to the device, like E: SANSA FUZE.
In MTP mode, there’s one more level, click on Sansa Fuze+, then you will see Internal Memory. Double click on this to open the root directory.
For firmware installation, it’s recommended to use MSC mode, where the Sansa is accessed as a flash memory device. To select MSC, on the device: from the main menu, sweep over to Settings > USB mode > MSC, then plug in.
