What am I doing with manual update?

I downloaded the update as instructed, written all the steps, and followed them. However, my Sansa Fuze+ still shows the previous version (02.03.33A). I even tried different Zip programs. Still no luck. The player refreshes the media after I unplug it from the computer. Then, it turns itself off as described here. when I turn it on, still the same version exists!

I have to be doing something wrong!

Any ideas will be appreciated.

thank you.

Do you have a memory card inserted in the slot? If so, take it out and try updating the firmware again.

Tapeworm;

That’s the first thing I did. I followed every step. I even tried 2 different laptops to unzip the file. After I extract it, the file name is still the same.( Firmware.sb) But, it is larger, about 35 MB. I drag into the player’s root directory. It is there. I unplug it. The Fuze display shows me it is refreshing the media. then, it shuts itself off. back it on. the version stays the same!!

I can’t figure it out.

I guess I will have to wait for Sansa’s automatic update.

What is the USB setting for the Fuze+?  If you are using auto detect or MTP and trying to update via Windows, it will not work.  You must go into Settings/USB Mode and change the unit to MSC mode.  When it is connected to the computer, it will enumerate as a removable drive not a player and then place the file in the directory.

It worked fine for me.

First, it was auto detect. I thought that caused the problem. I changed it to MSC mode. The result is still the same!

When I unzip (extract) the file, the file name is still the same. but, its size changes from 10 to 30 MB. Is that what you get too?

i am puzzled!

2.0.3.33A is the version number for the original Fuze (V2).  I think you are trying to flash a Fuze with Fuze+ firmware.

The Fuze+ has a touchpad control panel your Fuze has a scroll wheel.  Also the Fuze+ uses a Micro USB connector whereas the original Fuze has a cable that looks more like that for an Ipod.

The Fuze looks like this:

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Video-Player-Black/dp/B0015L0T68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299981168&sr=8-1

The Fuze+ looks like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Sansa-Fuze-MP3-Player-Black/dp/B0041G62R4/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

I think you are trying to flash your Fuze with Fuze+ firmware and that is why it is not working.

Your Fuze is currently up to date.

Hope this helps.

P_opus & Tapeworm;

Sansa should send you a free Fuze every year!!!

I checked the pictures at Amazon as P_opus suggested. Bingo!!! i always assumed + meant the player would accept a micro SD card.

I thought my master’s degree meant something! Geez!!!

Thanky you kindly for taking your time and answering my idiotic question. I am happy my beloved Sansa is not broken.
