Dead Sansa Fuze?

I’ve had my 2 GB Sansa Fuze for about 3 years now.

A couple of months ago, it starts having problems such as freezing, requring me to hold down the power button for a few seconds for it to turn off.

Now it won’t even turn on. When I plug it into my computer by USB, it shows up saying I need to format a drive, but I cannot.

It shows up as a

“UNDEF storage USB DEVICE”

I’ve tried http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61/~/enabling-or-forcing-msc-mode-on-your-sansa-player but that just shows up as an unrecognized USB device.

Does anyone have any idea if it is is possible to fix this?

Hi. Go to  My Computer - Right click on the USB drive and select format. Is it giving a new error message?

I’m not at home so I can’t tell you the exact error, but it did give an error.

Also it showed up as a 4 MB or so parition.

That probably means the flash memory chip died.

Is there anyway to get this fixed?

Only by buying a new player.

I have a 3 yearold 8g fuze that suffered the same symptoms before it died. It only shows up as a 4.3 mb drive that’s unformatable.  According to the guys at rockbox, the fuze is in pre-boot mode. The nand memory has become corrupted and needs to be reflashed. A step by step recovery method is here in the rockbox forum and more here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMSUnbrick  I have a second fuze or I would be saying if this works or not. It is alot of work if you don’t already have VMware, Cygwin or Ubuntu running under windows.
