Is there any way to see the date and time on the sansa fuze? or is it just for recordings or stamps?

Yes, the time should be shown in the bottom left corner.
The date you can see by going to Settings>System Settings>Date & Time
Can you see the date any other way then the way you described?

Doesn’t appear to be so…but it only takes a second to check the other menu for it.
