You most likely are facing the EU’s volume limitation, designed to protect your hearing and required under EU law. To avoid this, Reset the player under its System Settings and choose a non-EU setting (such as U.S. or Rest of World–I forget the options) for the geographic region setting. You also can do this by manually reapplying the player’s firmware (see the firmware thread above) and proceeding similarly. Once you have done this, the player should have a Volume setting under System Settings, which you then can set to high, for higher volume.
