Sansa Clip+ not playing flac files

I just bought it and it’s not playing flac files.

I use freeRIP to rip my CDs to flac.

The songs don’t play past 00:00.

I’m about to return this.

Thanks.

You could try a different ripping program.

And make sure you’re ripping in 16-bit. 24-bit is not supported.

I fixed it by installing RockBox. No idea what the problem was but it works now.

Glad it’s working for you but that really isn’t a fix; it’s a workaround. I have about 1300 FLAC files (ripped myself throuh EAC) on my Clip+ and 32GB memory card and have encountered none that don’t play in the original firmware.

The only explanation I have is that my flac files are 24 bits. I don’t know how to check that, though.

That could explain it. 24-bit FLAC files are not supported, only 16-bit. Rockobox doesn’t play 24-bit FLAC files either, but converts them on the fly to 16-bits as I understand it.

I’d check your settings in FreeRip. There’s no use or benefit to ripping in 24-bit.

I had same problem with my Clip Zip. There are known issues with free Rip.

I had no problem playing FLAC ripped from CD with Express Rip and db Poweramp.

No problems with CDs ripped to FLAC with Media Monkey either.

I wonder why 24bit isn’t supported. When the vinyl was captured to digitize for audiophile quality playback, 24bit is what the studio used. I could convert it I suppose. I have no idea what software was used originally…
