Sansa Clip+ Firmware Update 01.02.18

I’'ve had a similar problem for a while.  Whenever I have a large number of FLAC files on my Clip+, it will freeze/reboot randomly.

My solution was to reformat the device memory and hope that fixed it but since you had some success reducing FLAC-related freezes by downgrading your firmware, I’ll try that first.

I can always do a reformat if that doesn’t work.

After upade my SANSA clip+ to 01.02.18A my device is crushing, shutting off (battery 80%) and freezing.

How i can get the old version i bought my device with?

israel, sansa clip+ 8GB.

I downloaded the “updater install” exe file, but when I double click and choose run, nothing happens.

I run a Windows 7 machijne and have administrator rights.

Why won’t it install?

You don’t need the updater.  Don’t bother with it.

In the post that starts this thread, follow the Manual Install instructions, which are roughtly:  Download the latest firmware (look for an All Regions link), which is a .zip file. Unzip it. On the Sansa go to Settings/System Settings/USB Mode, write down which mode you had it in and change it to MSC.

Open Computer (otherwise known as Windows Explorer) and connect the Sansa to the computer. Drag the files you unzipped directly onto the driveletter for the Clip. Disconnect it (by taking the connector out of the Sansa first, not the computer) and it will update.Change the USB Mode back to what you had before.

The updater tries to contact Sandisk every time you boot up to see if there’s an update. All that does is slow down your startup.  If you’re really worried about missing an update, check in here every now and then–but as you can see from the initial post, there hasn’t been a firmware update since August 2012, which means it’s pretty unlikely there will be another.

Around here the auto detect mode is called auto defect. a Clip+ should be set to MSC or if someone needs to use protected files, then MTP mode. If you are serious about using playlists on the Clip+, I suggest that you install the free Rockbox firmware on your player. It allows great flexibility in making playlists on the player itself, and many other great features. rockbox.org

The Updater is not needed–it simply downloads the latest firmware for your player, which is readily available at the firmware sticky thread at the top of this forum.    :)    Likewise for the manual.

And with the way the Updater works, you’re actually better off installing firmware updates the manual way. The Updater searches for updates every time you plug in your player. A waste of time and computer resources since there won’t be any more updates for this old of a model.

I just got a new (used) Clip+ 4gb. It has v 17 software on it, and it won’t permit Overdrive to transfer an audio book to it (can not create a folder).

Am trying to update firmware, but am flying blind.

downloaded the file, extracted it, got a file clppa.bin.

Tried dragging it to the Sandisk main entry on explorer. Nothing happens. Unplug it, clip goes to “music” which is empty. No messages that it is updating.

Tried dragging ot to the Sandisk “internal memory” folder. Nothing happens. Unplug it, clip goes to “music” which is empty. No messages that it is updating.

Is this a slow process?  Do I need to drag and drop the file and then walk away?  When is it time to unplug?

Are you sure you have a Clip+? There is no .17 firmware for that model. There IS a vers. 17 for the Clip Sport however. Maybe that is what you have?

If you try to install the wrong firmware, it won’t do anything (like you describe).

Does your player look like this:

                     Clip+

Or this:

Clip Sport

Note - The Sport model has Bluetooth.

I had installed Rockbox.
Now I wanted to go back to the original firmware, but I made the mistake of erasing all in the Sansa.
When I download the firmware is a few mega, there is not everything.
Where can I find the complete firmware?
Thankyou

It is impossible to delete the original firmware. Rockbox doesn’t do it, and niether can you.

One of the nice things about Rockbox is that you can boot either to it or the original firmware at will.To boot into the original (Sansa) firmware when Rockbox is installed, press (& hold) the left (REW) button on the player while turning the unit on. It will boot into the Sansa firmware.

To then boot into Rockbox, turn the player off, then turn back on using only the power button.

Thank you, it works

I can confirm this. Just replaced a dead battery in my 6 years old unused Sansa Clip+ and immediately updated its firmware to 01.02.18.

Constant crashing and restarting issue, regardless of whether playing the FLAC files from internal or external storage. Tested the FLAC files for corruption and they’re all fine.

I thought the Clip+ is having hardware problem and dying… Really? Never had any of my devices ‘broken’ just by leaving it like that for years…

HOWEVER, ALL THE ISSUES ARE GONE AFTER REFLASHING OLD FIRMWARE VERSION 01.02.16…!!!

Don’t throw your Sansa Clip+ yet, they’ve released a buggy firmware before ceasing development…!!!
