No drive letters assigned in MSC mode[ Edited ]Options
01-15-2011 03:52 AM - edited 01-15-2011 03:54 AM Hello all. I am struggling to get a Sansa Clip Plus going. I have received the second device today. I had returned the first one thinking that it was faulty. But with the second one as well I can not manage to get it properly connected to my Windows 7 PC.
I need to get things going using MSC-mode for the 8GB Sansa with a 4GB microSD. I have set things on the device and can connect it to the PC. Windows recognizes the player, but does not assign drive letters to it. The Sansa shows up as "unknown device" in control panel. But updating drivers does not work.
I could run it in MTP-mode. This would work... But I need to get it going using MSC.
I have other DAPs working in MSC-mode without any problem.
Hopefully someone can point me into the right direction. Thanks in advance. Re: No drive letters assigned in MSC modeOptions
01-15-2011 06:00 AM That’s really a headache. I’m just curious why you prefer MSC than MTP. There are a lot of things that you can do on MTP mode which you can’t do on MSC, you can also do drag and drop on mtp mode as not all users are aware. Im sure somebody would react to this and will say MSC is better Re: No drive letters assigned in MSC modeOptions
01-15-2011 07:51 AM Thanks for your answer. I do not want to discuss the pros and cons of MSC vs MTP. I just would like to be able to fully use the Sansa in MSC mode.
Fact is that Windows does recognize the device. The two drives show up in the drive-section of device manager. But in addition I do see to unknown devices in device manager with missing drivers... I am wondering what drivers should be missing? And the two drives do not get a drive letter. And I can not assign one manually.
I did try several ports and rebooted many times... to no avail until now. Re: No drive letters assigned in MSC modeOptions
01-15-2011 11:09 AM Hmmmm, drive letter conflict usually occurs only with card readers, wherein the operating system is unable to assign a drive letter. Can you check how is it showing under Disk Management?

The real definition of each mode --
MTP -- Many Troublesome Problems
MSC -- Most Superior Class Re: No drive letters assigned in MSC modeOptions
