Formatting Sansa Clip Plus

Hi!

I wanna know am I safe to format my Sansa Clip Plus 2GB model from Windows? (right click on device - format - start :smileyvery-happy:)
That will of course delete everything, but will the firmware "survive"? If not, I can install it later without having any trouble?
Basically, my question is will I be able to use normally my Clip after formating (and installing new firmware, if necessary)? Formating will not delete any important system files, that are needed for firmware, or something?

Formatting the Sansa will not delete the firmware. It will just delete all your audio files on it.

Easiest way to format the player is by going to Settings menu of the player and simply select format :smileyhappy:

Re: Formatting Sansa Clip Plus

Don't format via Windows unless you are desperate, the player won't turn on, and it is not working.

Use FAT for a 2 GB player. Use FAT32 for players 4 GB and up.

If you must format a player via Windows, then when you are able to turn it on, format the player again using the player's menu.

Re: Formatting Sansa Clip Plus

The problem is that I am missing 200 mb!

In windows it says that capacity of a player is 1,8 GB, but it also says that only 1,6 GB is free. So I'm missing 200 mb.

Hidden file and folders are visible, and there aren't any.

I'm sure that i don't have anything "left behind" in any folder, I checked everything.

That's why I want to format from Windows, to delete everything from player.

Does anybody know why is this?

Firmware, operating files & RAM. You wouldn't want to delete these to gain only 200mb, even if you could. Then your player would basically only be a flash drive.

For a 2 GB player, 1.8 GB with 1.6 GB sounds about right. First of all, what Sandisk calls 2 GB is 2 billion bytes. what windows calls 2 GB is 1024x1024x1024 bytes. So Sandisk's 2 GB is really 1.86 GB. Then figure some space is also lost due to formatting.

The firmware and other system files take up 200 meg or so. So that bring you to 1.6 GB free on a 2GB player.

Re: Formatting Sansa Clip Plus

If you want to format the player, use the player's menu(setttings, system settings, format).

Re: Formatting Sansa Clip Plus

Menu|Settings|System Settings|Format.  It's 2nd from the bottom of the list between "USB Format" & "Press and Hold."
