X400 Opal Firmware update

Hi

The “new” X400 SSD lineup is advertised and speced on the dandsik homepage to support OPAL 2.0 and edrive - a feature which up to now is not available for the drives.

Internet sources speak of a following a firmware udpdate in april '16 - So now we have April '16 I would like to ask support as of when an update will be available

I am really missing drive encryption here

X400 will support Hardware Encryption with TCG Opal 2.0 but not eDrive BitLocker, please tell us where did you get the information that the drive will support edrive. Also please note TCG OPAL 2.0 SED can not be activated over firmware update, you need to order a drive with that function built in, which will become available during Q2 2016

For the latter part:

The product page (https://www.sandisk.com/business/computing/x400 and here: https://www.sandisk.com/about/media-center/press-releases/2016/sandisk-unveils-worlds-thinnest-one-terabyte-m-2-solid-state-drive)) clearly states SED OPAL capabilities without any indication that this is in any sort an “option” or with different versions.

There are several sources on the internet stating that OPAL support will be available via a FW update - please just do a google search.

So I would be really “can’t say the word” if the drive I bought will never do SED even though it is printed in large letters on the product page.

For the edrive part:

SInce the X300s is capable of IEEE 1667 I presumed that the successor X400 will also be capable of it.

Thank you for your information, unfortunately the X400 that supports TCG Opal 2.0 have the following SKUs and they are not available yet, they will come out Q2 2016. This information is also on X400 Datasheet. The link to the datasheet is here:

Yeah! As if people look at the tech spec PDF at the very bottom of the page if there is not any indication on the main page that some features might differ from drive to drive - so no in that situation people do not look at the PDFs. The main product page clearly states OPAL 2.0, and honestly I think that is very misleading - and not only to me if u check out the online stores listing the X400 drives. Example here a European search Engine:http://geizhals.de/sandisk-x400-512gb-sd8sn8u-512g-1122-a1368870.htmlIt states 256bit encryption and many store sites linked there do have those specs up to sell the drives. i.e.:http://www.future-x.de/sandisk-x400-solid-state-disk-verschl%FCsselt-p-287266/?pv=2So if what you say is true Sandisk has to some major correction to distributors and resellers.
