Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

Hi.
I've two Sandisk Extreme 240Gb on two different computers.
I've update both disks to the R211 firmware.
The SMART data tell:
For newest of the two, 28 working days and 1 reallocated sectors.
For the oldest one, 61 working days and 13 reallocated sectors.

Both systems use Linux's ext4 format.
I use "noatime" on fstab mount's options and I mount "/tmp" on a ram-disk to avoid unnecessary stress for the SSDs... for this I was really surprised on reading those values.

Is that amount of reallocated sectors normal or should I expect a premature death of my SSDs?

Thanks.

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

what SMART tool are you using? not all SMART tools can read the attributes correctly. Can you connect the SSD to a Windows PC and use the SSD toolkit to read the SMART.

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

I have no clue on what those logs tell. But have you found the solution to this yet?

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

Those logs are coming from SanDisk's tool and only confirm the SMART data that I read on my systems.
I've no ideas: I think that those values are very strange.
I've used another SSD (WD SLC 32Gb) for more then 2 years and it has no reallocated sectors.

what do you think... should I contact SanDisk assistance for replacing them?

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

the ssd should be replaced. there is nothing else that can be said. if you do not get it replaced you are runing the risk of a failure.

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

drlucky, I agree fully with you!

I've contact sandisk for this but they say that is not a problem.

this is a part of the email that I received form sandisk assistance:

"After reviewing the SMART attributes please be advised that these bad sectors are not affecting your SSDs and will not affect the life expectancy of your SSDs either.
If at any point you have a performance issue of any type, do not hesitate to contact us in order to proceed with a replacement of your devices if needed."

those sectors does not affect the performances, it's true, but affect the safety of my data and the life of the SSD.

yesterday appeared a new reallocated sector on the newest one. Smiley Sad

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

probably should have ask this earlier but what SMART tool are you using to read the SMART attributes? Not all SMART tools are equal and some can't read the attributes correctly. It is best if you can use either SanDisk toolkit or Crystal Disk Info

Re: Reallocated sectors appear maybe too soon

Drlucky, you are absolutely true!
Infact I've formatted another HD with Seven64, connected the two SSD to the machine and verified the S.M.A.R.T. data with SanDisk's DiskTool.
It has confirmed the data read by my linux systems.
SandDisk's assistence accepted the RMA for the oldest one (with 13 reallocated sectors).
the other I hope that will stop to 2... in other case I'll ask for another RMA.

thanks.
