Vista won't recognize 8GB Card Adapter

I have just tried to get Vista to recognize my 8GB microSDD HC Card in it's adapter from my HTC smartphone.  Nothing shows.  When I open Computer is shows that it is trying to (the blue address bar scans), but shows nothing.  So I tried a regular card from my camera and it showed no problem.  I have files on the card and want to transfer/bkp.  Is there a fix for this?
