Ok, I am going to ask again.... and don't take this the wrong way, remember this is the internet and you can't see that I am not trying to be a jerk, I am just trying to get your reader working.
In Device Manager, with the card inserted and the reader plugged in, what is listed under Disk Drives.
The thing you have been showing us is not the reader, it is your FireWire controller. The reader will only show up in one place, and one place only... and that is under Disk Drives.

I just bought one of these a couple of days ago and I'm also experiencing the same problem. The unit lights up, gets warm and the OS seems to disregard it completely. Stinks!

I wonder if you might be able to help me with the same problem.
i'm also on Vista32 SP1. I just received my Extreme Firewire reader and tried to connect it on two laptops and the device is not detected by either computer.
I connected my external hard drive (http://www.amazon.com/Maxtor-OneTouch-Turbo-FireWi
I looked in the device managers on both occassions and it didn't appear on either laptop in any shape or form. I tried connecting the reader without the card in putting the card afterward; and then tried connecting the reader with the card already in it (on the basis of various threads on the same subject). Neither worked.
I rang sandisk support and they told me to send it back. However reading other threads there seem to be users who had exactly the same problem who sent it back, were sent another one, and had exactly the same problem.
Is there anything I can do? I'm recording large video files on a DSLR file and really need a quick transfer system . . .

Dan, do you mean to say your eternal FW HDD works fine on your systems, but not the Express reader?
Did you connect reader directly to PC, or though the eHDD?
Detailed descriptions help in solutions.
