How to let my Dell laptop boot from USB flash?

Hello, I need your help, i have windows 8, Dell haptop,  i changed my password.i know it but it won’t let me log in even when i use my old one. Many sites said that I need to make a USB bootable passwrod reset disk and remove the password protection on my Dell laptop,  I have a Kingston USB flash with 8GB and I crated a USB drive successfully with Windows password recovery, but the problem is that  I don’t know how to let my Dell laptop boot from USB flash, any suggestion?

It’s been a long time since I’ve had to do it, so my memory might be wrong, but if you press the F8 key when booting up, doesn’t it give you bootable options where you can select the flash drive to boot from?

No, it’s F2.

Follow below steps to change the boot order:

  1. Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo.
  2. Under” BOOT” Option ensure Boot list option is set to “Legacy”.
  3. Now scroll down to 1st Boot Priority and change it to CD/DVD/CD-RW and 2nd Boot priority to Hard drive.
  4. Hit F10 to “Save” the settings and then Exit.

Thanks for the correction, kickson!

You need to change the first boot device to USB HDD in BIOS Settings. Instead, you can follow this guide: http://www.iseepassword.com/reset-dell-laptop-password.html

Check the step 1-3.  It has  pics embeded into tutorial.

To enter the BISO settings, you can press “F2,” or F8, F11, F12, or Del key, different brands have different key to enter the BISO settings.

In my Dell Inspiron laptop, the key is F12 to bring up the boot menu for selecting a boot media or entering into BIOS. If you can’t see your attached USB flash drive, you need to enter into BIOS: disable Secure Boot Control and disable UEFI boot mode.

Regards to password reset, you can use Windows installation disc & sticky keys trick:

This security hole exists since Windows Vista, and it’s not fixed now.

Thank you.

You mean you want to boot your computer from USB flash, Oh, man, that means you have to change the boot orders. May be you can refer to https://www.isunshare.com/computer/how-to-change-boot-orders-in-bios.html. If you are unfortunately  not familiar with some boot keys, just refer to how to boot to BIOS utility in different computers.

. Hope this would be helpful.

have you treid some free windows password rest tool which supports USB 2.0 and support UEFI BIOS, like ntpassword, passfolk saverwin…i used it to remove my admin password but not sure if it works for you.

https://www.passfolk.com/windows-password-recovery.html

i suggest you to buy a latest USB drive…

Will it be possible?

By the way, what antivirus can you recommend for the latest version of Windows?
I used Norton, but I did not like it. And judging by the rating, the positions are not too good. What do you think about Kaspersky?

As well as the Ubuntu live CD can be used to boot laptop (If the USB doesn’t work for you)

It is also a good idea to create one online.

Using bootable disk is one of the way to reboot the locked laptop, but not the easiest one.

Passwords can indeed be restored, and it is better to break it than to restore it.

Some software allows you to reboot laptop from USB flash, their purpose is to crack which computers cannot log in properly.

Check out them.
