Free Music Downloads

So I know everybody is looking for cheap or free music for legal downloads, and I have posted a few links over the last few months and thought it was time for a thread.

Here is a list of sites I frequent for freebies:

1. www.Frostclick.com

2. www.jamendo.com

3. Roadrunner Records

4. Amazon Free music and Special Deals

Frostclick is a way to get all kinds of media, including Music, Movies, Software, E-Books, and Graphics, licensed under the Creative Commons License, which makes it free.

Jamendo is an international collection of Artist who release there music thru CCL there are thousands of artists and albums on there.

Roadrunner is one of the US oldest and most diverse Independant Record Labels. they Also give you a free album when you register for their mailing list, As well as a free song for download from most of their artists.

Amazons Free and Specialn Mp3 deals, is what it says, they give out free singles from up and commers in the music industry and discounts on albums from the music staples we all love.

Re: Free Music Downloads

A few more independant record labels who have some free mp3s on their websites:

Sub Pop Records (free music availible includes songs by The Thermals, Flight of the Conchords and The Postal Service)

Matador Records (free music availible includes songs by Mogwai and Guided by Voices)

also there's RCRD LBL, which features about 150 or so free, legal MP3s by several notable indie rock bands like Beach House, Why? and Late of the Pier. All music availible on this site is availible with permission from the musicians and/or the record label although not all artists featured on the site have mp3s availible to download, only streaming, but most do.

Re: Free Music Downloads

I would delete that post but... I dont have that option.  Torrents can be legeal but the deal is the content in the torrent has to be licensed for sharing or you have to pay for it.

Re: Free Music Downloads

People get confused all of the time with the word "Torrent".  Torrent's per se are not illegal.  A torrent is a delivery system, that's all.  Just like CB said, it's the content contained within the torrent, where the problem lies.  If the content was obtained without permission from the copyright holder, it is indeed illegal.

With that said, there are plenty of legal torrents.  Take for example the last 2 releases from the group 'Nine Inch Nails' (Ghosts I-IV and The Slip) were legally trasmitted over the internet via torrents.

But, unfortunately, there is far more illegal content being shared via torrents than legal; so the word 'torrent' gets a black eye.
