I have a Mophie case with 32gb storage. The connection got damaged and was unusable. I took apart the case and took out the sandisk inside. How can this be attached in order to retrieve the data? Or do I have to send it to a data recovery specialist? Thanks for any help.

in that case i would suggest taking the card to a data recovery company in order to retrieve the data directly from the monolith and the chip of it.
in that way you have a bigger chance that they will retrieve the data from the card.

Though this thread is old, it is still useful as many people face the same problem from time to time. If you can connect your sandisk using another case (maybe there are other ways), it is possible to recover deleted files using special tools. Personally I prefer EaseUS recovery software. It is easy to work with it and it gives a possibility to deep scan the external devices and recover necessary data. There are good tips that can help to effectively recover deleted files with the help of this software - https://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/recover-deleted-files.htm. I follow them every time I need. Hopefully, this information will be useful and helpful for someone!
