Try resetting it. With the player on, press & hold the power button down for 20-30 secs. It may shut off (screen goes dark) within just a couple secs, but continue to hold the button down for the full count. Release, then press the power button down momentarily as normal to start it up. With any luck, this is just a glitch that will be fixed by resetting.
