write protected..!!!???

m not able to add files or delete any file in my cruzer. i  tried it in other pc’s too but the result is same. pls help me out.

HI, are you using this in a Mac or Windows? casue it might not be formatted in the correct format for Mac. It should be Formatted in Fat32

Some USB flash drives have a mechanical switch on them that puts them into Write Protect mode.  This can be a very small slider switch which may have caught on something in your pocket or computer case. If this is the situation, then simply move the switch to the unlocked position and try to copy files again. It should work now.

If there is no switch, Check the File or program you are trying to copy. Right-click on the file that you’re trying to write to and then click on Properties. Now you’ll see some options at the bottom of this window and one of them is Read-only. Make sure this box is unchecked and then click on the Apply button. You should now be able to write to this file.

There is also a Registry fix we can try, but you MUST first BACK UP, your current Registry.I will explain later if the above don’t work.

hi, thanks for giving me ur precious time. m using it on windows. and there is no such mechanical switch as u told, i checked for it. also the read only box is unchecked. whenever i try to copy anything it shows the message that the disk is write protected and remove the write protection or use another disk. m aslo not able to delete any files that already exist in it.

   Hi Sahilbatheja,

Dear member of SanDisk Community, welcome.

Please, try the Cruzer in other PCs, and see if the problem continues.

If still bad, do not grieve more friend, return it, because is dead, ist kaputt.

Write protection errors occur when a UFD detects a potential fault within itself.

The drive will go into write-protected mode to prevent data loss.
There is no method to fix this.

Contact SanDisk Technical Support who will replace the device if it’s authentic and is within warranty.

To obtain the internal data of the UFD, you can use (portable apps, free): USB Flash ChipGenius 4.00, http://filecloud.io/rqa7etmv

Windows Explorer will allow copying the files to the hard drive and not require downloading more software…

@ED

Thanks for your concern:

1- But: I meant, multiple computers more (by other PCs).

2- But: the internal data of the UFD, not are user files that are on the UFD, and Windows Explorer does not work for this.

Try them, you will like them.

A.

Additionally, there could be a good chance that this will be a hardware issue. You might want to check with your reseller and see if you can get a warranty replacement here.
