Sandisk Cruzer 16GB

Help!

I have been using this device for a very long time and have many files stored on it that havent been backed up.

When I plug it into the usb port on my computer I get a pop up message "You need to formate the disk in drive F: before you can use it.  I’ve tried using it on several other computers and I get the same message.

Is there anything I can do to recover the files?

Thanks.

If at all possible try running CHKDSK on the drive using Windows Command Prompt.  The File Allocation Table is screwed up.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I’m getting the following message when trying to run chkdsk "The volume does not contain a recognized file system.

Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."

I assume its corrupted.  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Not that I’m aware of at this point.  Sorry.

If the files are important you might try a professional service.  I think SanDisk has a link to one on their webpage.  If the files aren’t important you can try formating it.  And if that doesn’t work.you might still qualify for a free replacement drive.

I wish I had a better response for you.  :frowning:
