http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123; Code 28 states "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)".

Safe to assume it does not show up in My Comptuer, yes?

In regards to .inf files, I visited http://www.pcanswers.co.uk/tutorials/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=37345&subsectionid=607". In reading it can give a better explaination as to why it keeps appearing as an error with the install.

It should be noted that I used that site for personal reference and SanDisk does is not in anyway shape or form responsible for any information posted. I can not be upset at SanDisk for information I located on my own and used to further my learning.

I think your drivers in your Windows install have become damaged. Have you tried the player on another PC? If so and it works the problem will be something with your windows instalation.

The device does show up in device mgr. It shows a yellow question mark. Device status says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver". I tried to reinstall  but fails to install the driver. I installed media transfer protocol porting kit and it still doesn't show up in WMP 11. Right now I am going to try the steps on a different computer.

In my experience, its usually an isolated issue on a certain computer. I have installed the device manually sometimes with some success. To do so we go to Start>Control Panel>Add Hardware, at this point we can just follow the on screen instructions. Any issues just let me know.

Here is one more thing you can try. When asked to install the driver automatically or manually choose a location, try manually.

Then go to this subdirectory and see if it helps.

C:\Windows\inf

This is where Windows holds most of its drivers.

Yahoo, manually installed the e280. Now it is listed in the device mgr and wmp11. Tried an audiobook and it also works. Mission accomplished. You're all awesome. Thank you very much for the help

Tried to install it manually, found the driver manually, but still it has the same issue as before. Also tried to plug it in on the other PC, in MTP-Mode, and it really accepts the e280, but the music I put on it isn't shown in the music listing, though each and every song is in the correct format. Really, at the moment I'm just thinking 'what the hell'...

Minimum system requirement In order to be able to use a MTP or PlaysforSure device on your computer, you need windows XP service pack 1 and windows media player 10 or higher.
